Gifted 101

WHO are the “gifted” and WHAT should I do with them? Observe gifted characteristics and effective teaching strategies in use in our summer classrooms, demonstrated by master teachers. Then collaborate with other teachers from throughout the Metroplex to compile strategies that will REALLY work in your classrooms!

Attendees will join the parent/teacher luncheon “Ways We Want our Schools to Be: Addressing the Social and Emotional Needs of Children” with Dawn Rogers, MEd.



Carol C RaymondRaymond, MEd currently serves as the Director of Assessment & Special Programs, Professional Practice Coordinator, STEM Instructor and SENG Advisor at EA Young Academy. Carol has experience as a gifted and talented specialist, classroom teacher, elementary music specialist, and private music instructor.  Her degrees in music performance (BM), elementary music education (BME) and gifted education (MEd) provide a unique blend of expertise in the development of E.A. Young’s curricular and special programs. Prior to coming to Young, she authored numerous differentiated math and science units and created the social/emotional curriculum for Hardin Simmons University’s summer gifted program, “Threshold.”  Her passion area is implementing methods to meet the social and emotional needs of her students through challenging and appropriate academic pursuits.


Professionally, Carol serves on the American Mensa Gifted Youth Committee and is a member of the TAGT Communications Committee and is active in the TAGT Research Division where she has previously served as an officer.  She frequently presents at TAGT conferences in areas of parent education, social/emotional needs of the gifted and curriculum differentiation. While completing her graduate degree, Mrs. Raymond received the Mensa Education Foundation Scholarship as well as the NAGC A. Henry Passow Teacher Scholarship.  Carol also serves as a SENG Model Parent Group (SMPG) Facilitator. Her nationwide research study regarding the effectiveness of the SMPG model was recognized as the top Non-Doctoral Completed Research at the 2011 NAGC Graduate Gala. An article based on this research but adapted for parents was published in the SENGvine and is also featured in Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted: 30 Essays on Giftedness, 30 Years of SENG.
