Lower School STEM & Humanities
Alison Ross joins the Firehawk family as Lower School STEM, Humanities and Fine Arts, and Middle School Math faculty. Though at one point or another Ms. Ross entertained the idea of pursuing careers as a gymnast, ballerina, actress, orthodontist, fashion designer and occupational therapist, she ultimately decided that teaching suited her best. With a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Texas Christian University, Ms. Ross is a Horned Frog at heart. After spending the early part of her teaching career in a more traditional elementary classroom, she developed a passion for gifted learners and returned to school, earning her Masters in Gifted Education from Hardin-Simmons University.
In more recent years, Ms. Ross served as a TAGT conference presenter, earned a certification in Project Based Learning and spent time in a specialized school educating gifted elementary and middle school students in a variety of academic and artistic endeavors. As an educator, she thrives off of developing innovative lessons that promote authentic learning and digital media integration. In addition to aiding her students’ growth as learners, Ms. Ross enjoys coaching students through the social and emotional challenges that often accompany giftedness.
Outside of the classroom walls, Ms. Ross possesses a secret life as traveling swing dancer. Seriously. She regularly travels to workshops and competitions around the country throughout the year, performs with two dance teams and teaches classes locally. This explains why you might see her dancing down the halls rather than walking. Off the dance floor, she counsels small groups at her church, explores her creativity through painting and dabbles in the culinary arts.
