Brenda Edins has been a teacher for over 20 years and has taught subjects on such a broad spectrum that it circles back onto itself multiple times. A recipient of Teacher of the Year multiple times, Ms. Edins most recently served as a middle school science teacher, a theatre director and a UIL Music Memory coach, along with teaching after-school programs in technology, botany and global issues.
Ms. Edins is a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX, and holds a degree in Education with a minor in Music. While there, she continued to develop a love for the Arts working as a stage-hand and actor in the University Theatre, singing in the HSU Chorale, the University Singers and attempting the flute with the Concert Band. After graduation, she began teaching first in Lamesa, then in Hamilton, TX, where the majority of her time as a teacher has been spent, and where her two sons, Sean and Jeremy, grew up.
Ms. Edins’ family is her greatest joy. Her son Sean is the Executive Director of Worship at Keller UMC, his wife Crystal is a nurse at John Peter Smith Hospital and their son Nathaniel is the most amazing baby in the whole world! Ms. Edins’ youngest son, Jeremy, is a teacher at E.A. Young, where he is very excited to have someone tell him his hair is too short and that his beard needs a trim every day he comes to school.
Ms. Edins says, “I have loved being a teacher in every role I have undertaken. My goal is to encourage a love of learning about this amazing world we live in, and help students take that knowledge and use it to make life better for all living things. I encourage respect and responsibility in my students lives where determination and effort go a long way. I challenge my students to think beyond themselves. I challenge myself to learn new things right along with them.”
