Brenda Edins is a veteran educator of 37 years serving as the 3rd/4th grade Advisor for the 2021-2022 academic year at E.A. Young Academy. In addition, Ms. Edins teaches courses in English-Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Research/Problem Solving.

Ms. Edins has cherished being a teacher in every role she has undertaken. Her goal is to inspire a love for learning and to guide scholars in ways to make the world better for all. She encourages respect and responsibility in all scholars. Even when learning is difficult, determination and effort forge the brain connections that are needed to grow. Ms. Edins challenges scholars to think beyond themselves and challenges herself to learn right along with them.

Previously, Ms. Edins instructed scholars in Hamilton Independent School District for 29 years. During service in Hamilton she taught classes at every level from 1st to 12th grade. Subject specific classes included 6th/7th Science, 8th grade Reading, 8th grade Technology Applications, 6th - 12th grade Theatre Arts and Production, and an online HS Digital Photography class. Ms. Edins One-Act Play casts performed at the UIL State OAP competition four times in her 27 years as director. She also directed the High School Band Flag Corps for 18 years. Ms. Edins’s other responsibilities included HISD Tech Trainer and Technology Consortium Grant Coordinator, HISD Webmaster for 7 years, HISD Site-Based Committee Chair, College Board Test Administrator, UIL Speaking Events, Oral Reading, and Music Memory coach.

Prior to teaching in Hamilton, Ms. Edins taught in Lamesa Independent School District for 3 years. At North Elementary she taught 1st – 3rd grade Reading and Math to Migrant scholars. Ms. Edins spent two years teaching Kindergarten. She also spent 7 years at Pioneer Drive Child Development Center in Abilene, TX working with children from the age of 18 months through 3rd Grade.

During service with Hamilton ISD Ms. Edins was selected as MS Teacher of the Year in the award’s inaugural year and 5 years later. She is a member of Kappa Delta Pi - International Education Honor Society and Delta Kappa Gamma - Professional Honor Society of Women Educators. Ms. Edins served on the Board of Directors for Hamilton Civic Theatre, directing and acting. She was privileged to assist in the relocation of refugees from Africa, Haiti, and Israel to Canada and was involved in home building projects in Kentucky and with the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Staten Island, NY.
