In 9th ELA, scholars read the book My Forbidden Face, a true story about a young girl living in Afghanistan during the reign of the Taliban in the 1990s, before 9/11. As an in depth look at the main characters, each scholar designed a “cell phone” tailored to each one.
After choosing an appropriate wallpaper, scholars included a variety of the following things: Who would be shown as favorites on their call list and what would they be texting about, songs and movies that might be on their playlists, words they would store on their phones that describe who they are, and websites that they would be interested in.
